Benefits
|
Aside from the obvious benefits of having in place an effective and respected self-regulatory
system, CARU's Supporters are eligible for certain unique services:
- COPPA Safe Harbor program. CARU's Guidelines/Procedures
were the first to gain FTC approval as a Safe Harbor under the Children's Online
Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). This program effectively insulates participants
from investigation and enforcement action by FTC. Under the program CARU essentially
continues to function as it always has. The primary change is that participants
will explicitly and affirmatively state their commitment to adhere to the guidelines
and participate in the process, something they have heretofore done implicitly.
The program is available only to CARU's Supporters.

CARU offers its Supporters a "screening" service and will look at scripts, storyboards,
Websites in Beta, to offer guidance in developing advertising and Website content
which comports with the guidelines without stifling creativity and innovation.
