Internship Description
The Children's Advertising Review Unit of the Council of Better Business Bureaus
is a non-profit organization that fosters truth and accuracy in advertising directed
to children under 13 years of age. CARU is a self-regulatory body that was founded
in 1974 by the advertising industry to respond to public concerns. CARU's basic
activities are the review and evaluation of child-directed advertising in all media,
and online privacy practices as they affect children. When these are found to be
misleading, inaccurate or inconsistent with CARU's Self-Regulatory Guidelines for
Children's Advertising, CARU seeks changes through the voluntary cooperation
of advertisers and Website operators.
CARU offers a flexible schedule of internships to college students interested in
gaining valuable insight into advertising and children. The successful applicant
should be:
- In his/her sophomore, junior or senior year with an interest in children and advertising,
and an academic background in psychology and/or marketing;
- Computer literate - comfortable with surfing the internet and Microsoft Office programs
- Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Possessed of excellent writing and analytical skills

Detail-oriented and comfortable with general administrative duties
Duties will include:
Advertising monitoring (television, Internet, print advertising)
Corresponding with advertisers and consumers
Research projects
Administrative tasks
Compensation:
Unpaid, with compensation for transportation
Course credit where permitted by college
